One of my favorite events on MV is Grand Illumination Night. It is a summer highlight on Martha’s Vineyard that has been celebrating the cottages around the Tabernacle in Oak Bluffs for over a century.

The owners take great pride in adorning their homes with Oriental lanterns that have been passed down from generation to generation. While you wait for the show, you can participate with the community sing along at the Tabernacle and/or walk around the park speaking to the owning families.

Exactly at 9:00 PM, all of the home owners turn their lights on and instantly a mystical wonderland of gingerbread cottages light up with their adorned lanterns. Wow! This event takes place every 3rd Wednesday in August. I look forward to this event and try to participate every year. Hope to see you there..
